Pardee Hospital to Enhance Patient Registration and Clinical Processes with Access Enterprise Forms Management

Leading North Carolina facility replaces two e-forms management systems with powerful forms on demand functionality

Many hospitals are still struggling with the inefficiencies of paper forms. Pardee Hospital, located in Hendersonville, North Carolina, had already taken steps to eliminate these issues, but vendors had failed to meet the facility’s electronic forms management needs.

To finally realize the benefits of e-forms management, Pardee turned to Access’s Enterprise Forms Management (EFM) suite (http://www.accesseforms.com/our_story/).

“Access EFM has the functionality and ease of use that our two previous forms management systems didn’t,” said Lee Proctor, applications analyst at Pardee.

Pardee’s management team had wanted to implement barcoded wristbands in the Labor and Delivery department, but needed Access EFM to overcome an unexpected obstacle.

“Our previous e-forms management systems couldn’t produce barcodes small enough to fit on baby wristbands, which prevented us from moving forward with our patient safety initiative,” Proctor said. “With Access’s Patient Labeling System we produce barcoded wristbands for the father, mother and baby, which greatly improves patient safety and security in the Labor and Delivery department.”

Another area that will benefit from Access EFM is clinical floors. Previously, when a nurse wanted labels with patient demographics they called the patient registration department and waited for someone to bring them. That’s a thing of the past.

“With Access’s e-Forms Repository, nurses can print patient forms with labels and barcodes already affixed,” Proctor said. “This saves a lot of time on clinical floors, and means patient registration staff aren’t bringing labels to nurses.”

Proctor expects Access EFM to also create efficiency in patient registration. Once a clerk registers a patient in MEDITECH Client Server, they will just click a button to retrieve all the required admissions forms for that individual. Using exclusive data mapping technology, Access EFM pre-fills the forms with patient demographics, as well as applying barcodes. This saves time for patients and staff.

"Access EFM is an important part of our EHR initiative, as a complement to MEDITECH Client Server," Proctor said.
