Powerful validation for healthcare organizations that have adopted the innovative technology as the standard for care collaboration and achieving meaningful use

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — Feb. 4, 2010 — Medicity – the leading provider of health information exchange (HIE) solutions that empower physicians, hospitals and communities to improve care coordination, collaboration and achieve meaningful use of health information technology – today announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded the company Patent No. 7,653,634 for its agent-grid technology for health information exchange. This patented technology, which is at the core of Medicity’s Novo Grid, has become the industry standard for seamless electronic health record (EHR) integration and community-wide health information exchange.

The patent defines an innovative approach to achieving the secure exchange of health information between disparate computing systems across acute care and ambulatory care locations, which is essential to achieving meaningful use. It offers a secure, scalable and rapidly deployable solution that enables information exchange among healthcare providers – ultimately creating a healthcare social network among participating providers as they exchange information to improve patient care and operating efficiency.

The patented technology in Medicity’s Novo Grid leverages agents – intelligent software programs installed in physician offices, hospitals, and other allied healthcare organizations – that communicate over the Internet and eliminate the need to establish and support point-to-point interfaces. Performing workflow and integration tasks, these agents seamlessly enable health information exchange that adapts to the technology level of each practice – distributing data electronically to EHRs and making information available via the Web for paper-based practices.

The Grid is a key technology for improving patient care quality and delivery, providing healthcare organizations with “last mile connectivity” into physician practices, connecting all systems across a community and making patient health information securely available.

“This patent is a reflection of the advancements we have made in improving the exchange of health information,” explained James K. Lassetter, M.D., Chairman and CEO of Medicity. “The Novo Grid is rapidly deployable and is changing the way healthcare is delivered by a wide range of healthcare organizations – from health systems that are fully automated across the enterprise to practices using paper-based systems.”

The patent was awarded on the heels of a banner 2009 for the company that recently reported strong revenues and anticipates the momentum to keep pace in 2010 as healthcare organizations engage in HIE to achieve meaningful use.

“The innovation doesn’t stop here,” continued Lassetter. “Our next-generation platform, called iNexx, is designed to take the Novo Grid technology to the next level – to inspire advancements in application development that will enable physicians to download modular applications and create a customized software suite to help them achieve meaningful use and gain workflow efficiencies where they need them.”

Medicity will demonstrate the Novo Grid and its next-generation iNexx technology at HIMSS10, March 1-4, 2010 in Atlanta, GA.

New Jersey hospital first in the country to deploy new software release with iPhone integration feature, upgraded charge capture determination, Observation Unit support and more

Livingston, N.J., Feb. 02, 2010 – EDIMS LLC, a leading provider of interoperable emergency department (ED) information management systems, today announced that the ED department at Clara Maass Medical Center smoothly upgraded to the newest version of EDIMS’ electronic health records (EHR) system. The 465-bed Belleville, N.J.-based hospital, a member of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, Livingston, NJ, is the first facility in the nation to implement the recently released EDIMS v2.6 system. This version includes greatly enhanced medication reconciliation, streamlined assessments, and several new features.

“The new version has made my life easier by improving workflow efficiency and placing additional and more comprehensive patient information readily available at my finger tips,” said Robert Giles, MD, an emergency physician at Clara Maass. “For example, the new feature that automatically checks for drug interactions has enabled me to provide better care. This feature saves me about an hour every day because I no longer have to search the Internet, access a drug checking application on my personal digital assistant, and then enter prescription information to be printed out for clinicians, patients or both. Now all the information I need is available within EDIMS.”

ED Nurses at Clara Maass report a similar experience using v2.6. “The enhanced documentation and assessment features of the system makes it much easier and faster to triage and chart patients,” said Gerard Bernales, RN. “The new system automatically retrieves and populates the patient’s history into the record; I just confirm with the patient whether they are still on those medications and have the same allergies and history. This new version of EDIMS helps us to be even more efficient, which of course is especially important in a busy ED.”

EDIMS v2.6, Bernales said, also allows Clara Maass to build and customize a list of commonly prescribed medications that patients take, making it easier to triage and simpler for the provider to maintain and reconcile medications patients are taking at home and prescribed upon admission, transfer or discharge.

In addition to drug interaction and historical triage enhancements, new features of EDIMS v2.6 include:

•	An eDocuments scanning solution that enables clinicians to scan and add a PDF of important documents to a patient’s chart, including home medication lists, EMS run sheets, and driver’s licenses.
•	An Observation Unit feature that includes observation specific orders and documentation templates, as well as a separate physician observation note, to better document the care provided.
•	A redesign of assessments that is more comprehensive and system based, enabling clinicians to quickly document the relevant systems.
•	An upgrade to charge capture determination that fully automates and facilitates the management of injection and infusion charges.
•	A new iPhone integration feature that gives clinicians the ability to access EDIMS from their mobile devices.

According to said Shane Hade, EDIMS’ CEO, "We are pleased that Clara Maass is using our solutions to help clinicians make faster and more informed decisions at the point of care. With version 2.6, we enhanced our EHR to better support the needs of emergency departments – our systems deliver quick value, enabling hospitals to drive ED quality, safety and efficiency to higher levels as soon as they deploy the system.”

2009 CEMENTS MEDICITY AS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD FOR HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGE

A 91 percent increase in bookings headlines a banner year as hospitals, HIEs, and physicians prepare for achieving meaningful use

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — Jan. 18, 2010 — Medicity – the leading provider of health information exchange (HIE) technology that empowers physicians, hospitals and communities with solutions to improve care collaboration – today reported a sharp, 91 percent increase in bookings in 2009 over the previous year and a 35 percent increase in five-year revenue backlog.

The strong momentum Medicity generated in 2008 accelerated further in 2009, as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) propelled HIE into the national spotlight as a core capability needed to enable hospitals and physicians to achieve meaningful use of electronic health records and thereby qualify for federal stimulus funds. As the established leader in the HIE market, Medicity capitalized on this heightened demand with the signing of 23 new contracts in 2009.

Healthcare organizations across the country have turned to Medicity to prepare for meaningful use requirements as well as achieve further goals of improving care quality and containing costs. With now more than 700 hospitals and 250,000 physicians in its connected ecosystem, Medicity has cemented its position as the industry standard for health information exchange.

As a complement to explosive growth in 2009, Medicity placed significant focus on operational enhancements and delivery of software, services and support to new and existing clients. Significant milestones include new product launches and upgrades for dozens of Medicity clients; design and delivery of software enhancements; streamlined deployment technology and processes to facilitate rollout of physician-office connectivity on a mass scale; optimization of support processes; and aggressive hiring while adding significant management bandwidth to the company through the integration of the Novo Innovations executive team.

Medicity kicked off 2009 by announcing its merger with Novo Innovations, creating the most adaptable and complete HIE offering in the market. By combining the HIE technologies and expertise of the two companies, Medicity expanded its ability to fully integrate silos of healthcare data in communities throughout the nation and establish true, last-mile connectivity into physician offices with one highly secure, rapidly deployable and massively scalable solution. Medicity also reported strategic partnerships with Atlanta, Ga.-based Eclipsys and Plano, Texas-based Dell Perot Systems.

In a move to revolutionize healthcare IT application design and delivery while stimulating innovation, Medicity also announced the opening of its HIE platform to third-party application development with a project called iNexx. Third-party partners that write apps using the iNexx application programming interface (API) gain access to the broadest distribution channel of connected providers in the country. Providers using iNexx will select modular apps that work together seamlessly on the iNexx platform to enhance the delivery of patient care specific to their practice and workflow and create efficiency in practice operations.

2009 culminated in a banner year for the company, as it celebrated its tenth anniversary. “When we started Medicity a decade ago, a key goal was to alleviate for other providers the frustration I had felt as a practicing physician about the lack of patient information available to me,” explained James K. Lassetter, M.D., chairman and CEO of Medicity. “That’s what sets us apart from other vendors in our segment. We understand the needs of physicians, hospitals and community organizations and are uniquely qualified to provide the leadership and technology that enables true health information exchange at all levels: local, regional, statewide and throughout the nation.”
ATLANTA, Jan. 12, 2010–Geisinger Health System, one of the nation’s largest integrated healthcare delivery systems, is implementing RelayHealth’s RevRunner® eligibility solution to improve patients’ understanding of their health insurance coverage.

“During these difficult economic times, it is critical that we help patients understand their health plan’s coverage and their own financial obligations,” said Barbara Tapscott, vice president of Revenue Cycle, Geisinger Health System. “By using RelayHealth’s RevRunner to verify their insurance eligibility both before and during their hospital stays, we can provide patients with an accurate picture of the fees that they must cover.”

Geisinger chose RelayHealth’s RevRunner financial clearance services because it automatically uses multiple means to verify the most current and complete data on a patient’s coverage, copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. RevRunner will help improve Geisinger’s verification process by providing unlimited eligibility checks from the scheduling of services through discharge and final billing to verify payor and patient financial responsibilities. Lower administrative costs and improved cash flow are expected as a result.

RevRunner gives outlying Geisinger practice sites that are not connected online with its central business office a quick and reliable way of verifying insurance eligibility as often as necessary.

Cited in two Presidential speeches on healthcare reform, Geisinger Health System has a reputation as one of the nation’s highest quality and most cost efficient healthcare organizations. Geisinger is also recognized as a national leader in the implementation of health information technology.

“We are proud to be selected by Geisinger Health System, a world-class healthcare leader that shares our vision of using technology to reduce the administrative cost of delivering healthcare,” said Jim Bodenbender, president of RelayHealth’s Provider and Consumer Solutions. “While utilizing our solution to automate this process, Geisinger is also improving their patient service. With our pre-service financial planning, for example, Geisinger patients are better equipped to make informed payment decisions. In this new world of patient financial responsibility, this is an important service that patients appreciate.”

Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center Swiftly Expands Use of Eclipsys Solutions to Create Nearly 100 Percent Electronic Environment

Large, Multispecialty Practice and “Big Bang” Emergency Department Activations Drive Enhanced Care Coordination and Workflow Efficiencies

Atlanta—Jan. 12, 2010—Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, announced today that Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center (Bronx Lebanon), the largest voluntary, not-for-profit healthcare system in south and central Bronx, NY, has quickly expanded its use of integrated clinical components of Eclipsys Sunrise Enterprise™ suite of solutions. In addition to a seamless “big bang” activation of Sunrise Emergency Care™ within its emergency department (ED), Bronx Lebanon has recently completed a successful, six-month accelerated activation of Eclipsys’ Sunrise Ambulatory Care™ solution within a 40-doctor multispecialty practice. The ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) implementation is the first step in a plan to roll out ambulatory EHRs to all 27 of Bronx Lebanon’s outpatient practice clinics in 2010. Both activations build upon the healthcare system’s use of Eclipsys’ access management and industry-leading computerized physician order entry (CPOE) solutions within its acute care environments.

A Scalable Template for Full Ambulatory EHR Rollout
“Because Eclipsys’ CPOE solution is integrated with Sunrise Ambulatory Care, we were able to utilize applications, such as orders, immunization manager and wellness manager, which are embedded in the structured notes of our ambulatory EHR,” said Eliot Heller, M.D., chief medical informatics officer, Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. “Amazingly, we completed the launch with only two IT staff dedicated to the project because of the expertise and planning assistance we received from our Eclipsys team. I believe we deployed the outpatient EHR faster than any of the other healthcare systems in our area.”

Added Heller, “This launch also has given us a scalable template for deploying an EHR solution in our remaining 27 ambulatory care practices.”

Bronx Lebanon utilized Eclipsys’ speed to value methodology to deploy Sunrise Ambulatory Care. The ambulatory EHR solution provides outpatient physicians with clinical decision support, web-based practice management and medical billing support and embedded connectivity to streamline healthcare data exchange with pharmacies and payers. This functionality not only increases operational efficiency, but also will help providers demonstrate meaningful use, a key requirement for hospitals that seek to qualify for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus funds. Sunrise Ambulatory Care v 5.0 is Surescripts certified for Prescription Benefit and Prescription History services and Prescription Routing with retail pharmacy.

ED Activation Eliminates Documentation Redundancies; Seamless to End-User Community
Bronx Lebanon further leveraged its Eclipsys’ technology platform with its recent “big bang” activation of electronic physician documentation of patient care in the emergency room setting. Steven Anderman, chief operating officer, stated, “Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, the combination of careful resource planning, physician leadership and execution, as well as strong Eclipsys support resulted in a very successful EHR implementation, with no loss of operational productivity and minimal problems in our busy ED.”

The activation, which involved 60 physicians, builds upon ED nurses’ use of Sunrise Emergency Care, as well as Eclipsys’ electronic tracking board. Now that both physicians and nurses are utilizing the same system, the hospital has significantly eliminated documentation redundancy among the care team for improved speed and accuracy of care notes and orders.

“The Eclipsys support people were instrumental in the ED activation going so smoothly,” said Thomas Boyd, M.D., assistant medical director, ER, Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. “They demonstrated strong knowledge of the applications and took the time to familiarize themselves with the specifics of what we wanted to achieve at Bronx Lebanon. From a benefits perspective, the Eclipsys solutions have provided our emergency physicians with a visible measure of increased charting accuracy and workflow efficiency. Laboratory and radiology results and past medical history are all automatically pulled into the chart. We’re no longer rewriting radiology interpretation, so rather than slowing work down as was feared, the new technology is providing us with data that is a great benefit to performing admission diagnosis and assessments.”

The ED activation was another large implementation for Bronx Lebanon to bring it to an almost 100 percent electronic world. In 2010, it will complete rolling out the EHR solution to most of the remaining 27 Bronx Lebanon practices, followed by a dedicated rollout of Eclipsys’ clinical documentation solution within inpatient settings at its two main hospitals. Once the IT projects are completed, the health system will have enabled bi-directional, enterprise-wide information sharing and access to patient records from any location.

“Our market leadership in CPOE provides health systems with a solid foundation for EHR deployment,” said Jay Deady, Eclipsys’ executive vice president of Client Solutions. “In combination with our speed to value methodology, we can enable any health system, regardless of size or resource constraints, to quickly deploy Eclipsys technologies for improved clinical, operational and financial outcomes.”

About Eclipsys’ CPOE Solution
With a client base that leads the industry in CPOE adoption, Eclipsys outperforms its peers in composite performance across all Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality measures. In addition, Eclipsys clinical information systems are used by 45 percent of the Magnet Recognition Program® hospitals, and Eclipsys clients represent 40 percent of the facilities that the U.S. News and World Report ranked among “America’s Best Hospitals” in 2009. According to the KLAS CPOE Digest 2009, Eclipsys leads the industry in total physicians live on CPOE and the percentage of its client base using the system. Eclipsys will showcase its CPOE solution, along with other integrated components of its Sunrise Enterprise system at HIMSS 2010 in Atlanta, March 1-4 (booth #5833).

―Creation of Single EHR across Venues to Integrate Care, Improve Patient Safety; Sets Stage to Meet Expected ARRA “Meaningful Use” Requirements―

Atlanta―Jan. 11, 2010 ―Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that New York Downtown Hospital (New York Downtown) will launch a major information technology (IT) initiative involving multiple integrated components of the company’s Sunrise Enterprise™ suite of solutions. The new applications will advance New York Downtown’s use of enabling applications by creating a single electronic health record (EHR) across venues to improve the quality, safety and continuity of care. The initiative also sets the stage for the Lower Manhattan hospital to meet the expected “meaningful use” requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

Expanded Use of Technology for a Single EHR from Emergency Room to Bedside
New technology solutions include Sunrise Acute Care™, Eclipsys’ industry-leading computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system, Sunrise Pharmacy™, its integrated pharmacy information system, along with the company’s emergency care solution, Sunrise Emergency Care™. In combination, these applications will create a single and unified view of up-to-date patient information from the emergency room to bedside and into the hospital pharmacy.

The CPOE solution will provide physicians with clinical decision support resources at the point of care in the form of order sets and evidence-based treatment guidelines. Moreover, the tight integration between Eclipsys’ CPOE and pharmacy solutions sets the stage to help New York Downtown in meeting what is expected to be the medication management component of ARRA. Expected clinical benefits include eliminating the need to manually transcribe medication orders, improved care coordination between pharmacists and clinicians, enhanced medication delivery time and improved accuracy of carrying out physician orders—all which support improved patient outcomes.

“Living in close proximity to the diverse residential and business communities of Lower Manhattan, our patients insist on the highest levels of technological sophistication in their healthcare services,” said Warren B. Licht, M.D., New York Downtown Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer. “Our No. 1 strategy goal in this endeavor is to create an integrated technology environment that will support improved quality and effectiveness. In fact, we were reviewing technology options prior to the passage of ARRA, but the promise of economic benefit has been an impetus for us to move forward quickly. We selected Eclipsys because we have enjoyed a positive working relationship, and as a company, it goes unmatched in helping clients achieve deep adoption of technology. We expect Eclipsys to fully support us in satisfying what we expect to be the meaningful use requirements of ARRA.”

Industry Leadership in Physician Adoption
With a national spotlight on adoption of EHRs to improve the quality and cost-containment of the U.S. healthcare system, New York Downtown has chosen to partner with the company that leads the healthcare information technology industry in physician adoption of and satisfaction with CPOE technology. Eclipsys leads the industry in total physicians live on CPOE, as well as the percentage of its client base using the system, according to the KLAS CPOE Digest 2009: Meaningful Use and Physician Adoption report. In addition, Eclipsys’ acute care EHR is ranked No. 2 in its category in the 2009 “Top 20 Best in KLAS Award: Software and Professional Services” report. Eclipsys’ pharmacy solution is ranked No. 4 in the industry according to the same report.

“We are pleased New York Downtown Hospital has placed their confidence in our proven track record of successfully supporting deep client adoption of clinical software, which is critical to meeting the expected meaningful use requirements of ARRA,” said Jay Deady, Eclipsys’ executive vice president of Client Solutions. “In addition to know-how in supporting adoption, we offer clients a fully integrated clinical system, embedded complex algorithms that transcend fundamental order entry, and proven methodologies to support organizations in realizing clinical performance goals. We look forward to working with New York Downtown as they pursue their dual goals of creating an integrated care environment and qualification for federal stimulus dollars.”

With more than 30 years of experience, Eclipsys has leveraged the input of thousands of physicians for evidence-based order sets and frequently used protocols to achieve unmatched, continuous evolution in its CPOE capabilities. The intuitive, easy-to-adopt solution offers highly complex clinical decision support capabilities that provide workflows tailored to how physicians practice medicine and support automating even the most complex order sets and medication ordering, including the exacting protocols, long-range medication schedules and complicated treatment plans commonplace in oncology and pediatric care environments.

New York Downtown also has opted to deploy Eclipsys Sunrise Record Manager™ solution to free up valuable storage space, facilitate comprehensive chart tracking and requests, chart completion, release of information, electronic signature and medical record abstracting. In addition, the hospital has renewed its services agreement with Eclipsys to support it in major aspects of the IT project and ongoing system maintenance.

Atlanta — Jan. 11, 2010 — Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that Athens Regional Medical Center (Athens Regional), a 375-bed regional referral center located in Athens, GA, has selected Eclipsys PeakPractice™ electronic medical record (EMR)/practice management (PM) solution. As a current user of Eclipsys’ integrated clinical system, Sunrise Enterprise™, Athens Regional will use PeakPractice to link vital patient information with its network of physicians to achieve greater continuity of care and enhanced patient safety across its care community. Physician networks in scope for the technology initiative include Athens Regional Physician Services, Athens Regional FirstCare and Athens Regional Specialty Services, which encompass 58 physicians practicing at 27 locations.

“This initiative will serve to standardize data transfer and communication between our organization’s ambulatory and acute care environments, while at the same time serving to enhance the efficiency and quality of care within our physician practice offices,” said Tim Penning, chief information officer, Athens Regional Medical Center. “PeakPractice is a very appealing solution that runs on a single database, enabling integration and automation of all of the paper work and clinical documentation required for episodes of care in a community practice setting. We look forward to implementing our strategic physician alignment plan and facilitating the exchange of care information that leads to an enhanced patient care experience and improved outcomes.”

Additional Program to Help Community Physicians Achieve ARRA “Meaningful Use”In a later phase, Athens Regional will utilize PeakPractice to link care information with participating affiliated community physicians in Northeast Georgia. By supporting development of an integrated EMR across the community, the initiative will serve to further integrate patient care information, such as patient allergies, current medications and latest medical history across providers in a geographic region for improved care continuity, safety and quality. The community EMR program will utilize the Eclipsys HealthXchange™, powered by Medicity, to enable the seamless exchange of information across a network of disparate and disconnected EMR systems. The initiative also will serve to aid local physicians in becoming eligible for stimulus funding associated the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, which provides incentive payments to physicians who demonstrate “meaningful use” of an electronic health record (EHR).

“We recognize the clinical and economic importance in achieving connectivity among all healthcare providers and care settings in our regional area,” said Larry Webb, chief financial officer, Athens Regional Health Services. “Not only will this program support increased operational efficiency within our organization, we are making it much easier for community physicians to receive economic benefit from adopting technology that supports improved care delivery, because the PeakPractice solution offers capabilities to help enable physicians to qualify for incentives under ARRA.”

An integrated Database with Extensive Workflow Customization Key Factor in Selection
The PeakPractice solution also appealed to Athens Regional due to the wide variety of specialists that practice within its physician network—from pediatrics to urology. With flexible templates that enable easy modification, the PeakPractice system offers ease of modification to enable practitioners to easily adapt patient documentation to meet the specialty’s unique workflow needs.

“A key requirement of ARRA mandates exchange of ‘semantically interoperable’ information among care providers and between providers and patients. By providing physicians with access to a connected clinical solution and integrated EMR, Athens Regional is undertaking significant ownership to promote enhanced care collaboration and economic stimulus within the North Georgia region,” said Jay Deady, Eclipsys’ executive vice president of Client Solutions. “We are very pleased to work with this valued client as they utilize our proven technology to realize their vision of physician alignment and connectivity between all healthcare providers and care settings.”
