Who are we?
Founded in 1947 and headquartered just north of Chicago, the CAP is an established organization dedicated to improving patient care through advocacy, education and laboratory quality assurance. As the organization that developed and maintained SNOMED Clinical Terms® (SNOMED CT) for more than 40 years, SNOMED Terminology Solutions, a division of the College of American Pathologists, offers a variety of educational offerings and consulting services to assist in the implementation of SNOMED CT. SNOMED CT provides the core terminology for the electronic health record (EHR). When implemented into software applications, SNOMED CT provides clinically relevant information that populates the EHR. It offers the infrastructure to enable clinicians to share health care information across clinical specialties and sites of care.
The Position:
The Technical Consultant within our SNOMED division is a fantastic opportunity for someone with extensive experience with SNOMED CT (or other healthcare terminologies) who would enjoy using their expertise and superior consultative skills to provide clients with implementation and technical support, The Technical Consultant will identify consulting opportunities while working with the clients to facilitate implementation of SNOMED CT into their applications, including addressing and resolving potential integration/interoperability issues. Analyzing and evaluating software applications, database structures and terminology needs are also an important part of this role, as well as determining client education needs and developing and delivering effective internal and external training. In addition, the Technical Consultant will participate (present/publish) in healthcare technology meetings and professional organizations to develop business relationships/partnerships and to increase the visibility and branding of STS.
What we require:
We look for a self-motivated individual who is a strong problem solver and a natural leader with highly developed communication skills to fill this role, as it is highly visible to both clients and internal staff from a wide variety of departments. A desire/willingness to travel is essential as this role does require travel. A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS or related discipline is required, as is two years of experience in implementing SNOMED CT or other clinical vocabularies in software systems, including knowledge of healthcare-related integration standards such as IHE and HL7. It is essential that you also possess expertise in Relational database design and development (Access, Oracle, SQL Server and other DBMS) and a high level of proficiency in XML and Internet-based application development (XML, Java, .Net, Perl, etc.). A minimum of 5 years of programming/systems analysis experience, including proven database expertise is preferred, as well as clinical knowledge, software, and program/project management experience.
