Medicity Collaborates with Emdeon to Create a National Meaningful Use Health Information Exchange Solution
The companies intend to connect networks to converge clinical and financial data
HIMSS 2010
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HIMSS Booth #4632
Medicity, Inc., the nation’s largest clinical health information exchange (HIE) vendor, announced today that it is collaborating with Emdeon, Inc. (NYSE: EM), the nation’s largest financial and administrative health information exchange solution provider, to create the first “converged” national health information exchange. The collaboration leverages Emdeon’s national network of payers, providers, and pharmacies and Medicity’s clinical exchange network, based on Medicity’s innovative iNexx Health 4.0 platform.
Qualifying for meaningful use is on the minds of many of the healthcare providers served by both companies. Combining access to the services of both Emdeon and Medicity will allow eligible providers to meet meaningful use criteria in a simple, non-intrusive and cost effective way – within their current workflow as an extension of current technologies already used in their daily practices. The combined reach of the companies touches approximately 88% of physician practices today, making meaningful use possible for the masses.
Based on Medicity’s patented Agent-Grid architecture, iNexx follows the iPhone app store paradigm. It is the first open, modular, Health 4.0 platform for healthcare IT app design and delivery – bringing robust content, proactive care communities, and meaningful applications together in a coherent, connected environment. iNexx puts revolutionary flexibility in the hands of physician practices by offering access to a store of modular apps developed by a wide range of healthcare vendors and partners. Once downloaded, these apps work together as a composite solution to meet the practice’s specific needs.
“Emdeon is the recognized leader in the exchange of both financial and administrative data within healthcare with the largest reach of any service provider. When you consider the breadth of Medicity’s network of providers in combination with Emdeon’s, the collaboration could connect more than 500,000 providers nationwide,” said James K. Lassetter, M.D., Chairman and CEO of Medicity. “We are excited that Emdeon is working with Medicity, which we believe validates our strategic direction with iNexx and our Health 4.0 platform. Exposing Emdeon services to Medicity’s large and established network of providers across the country will enable our customers to more completely achieve meaningful use on a single platform.”
“Convergence is the powerful concept of merging financial and clinical information into a single coherent view for healthcare providers. Our collaboration with Medicity is designed to break through the historical misconceptions regarding the separateness of clinical and financial health information – both are health information and both are needed to create a complete patient-centric health record,” said George I. Lazenby, Chief Executive Officer of Emdeon. “Further, health information exchange is a required component for achieving meaningful use and it’s not enough for a provider to just use an EHR inside the four walls of a physician practice or hospital. Emdeon currently performs more than five billion health information exchanges per year today, and many people don’t know that we conduct millions of e-prescriptions and e-lab orders/results as part of that total. With the convergence of Medicity’s clinical data exchange and Emdeon’s existing exchange capabilities – we believe our provider customers will be able to achieve meaningful use with ease and deliver better, more efficient and highly coordinated care to the patients they serve.”
In an era of health reform, where cost containment is essential and achieving meaningful use of health information technology is a national agenda via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the collaboration of Emdeon and Medicity can play a leading role. Medicity and Emdeon will be demonstrating the integrated services within the next-generation iNexx Health 4.0 platform at the Medicity booth at HIMSS10, March 1-4, 2010 in Atlanta, GA.
